Nerve Damage (Peripheral Neuropathy)

What is Nerve Damage/ Peripheral Neuropathy?

Damage can occur to nerves in your brain and spinal cord. It can also occur in the peripheral nerves, which are located throughout the rest of your body. Autonomic nerve damage may produce the following symptoms: Inability to sense chest pain, such as angina or heart attack.

A common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes, but it can also result from injuries, infections, and exposure to toxins.

Symptoms include pain, a pins-and-needles sensation, numbness, and weakness. Treatments include antidepressants like amitriptyline, pain medications like oxycodone, anti-seizure medications, and pain-relieving creams. It's also important to treat the underlying condition.
